Only about 15% of stars of the entire galaxy host planetary system one of those stars is our Sun. Sun hosts our solar system. According to NASA, Our Sun is named Sol, after the Latin word for Sun, “Solis,” and anything related to the Sun we call “solar.” Sun is in the Orion Spur of the milky-way galaxy. It is believed that the sun was born when the cloud of dust and gaseous particles (solar nebula) collapsed and in the center certain mass condensed into a burning ball of gases resulting from the formation of the sun. Sun is the center of our planetary system and everything around the system revolves within the gravitational force of the sun. The Sun is almost 4.5 billion-year-old a hot glowing ball of hydrogen and helium. Without the energy of the sun, life on earth can’t be imagined. The Sun is the largest known object in our solar system with about 865,000 miles (about 1.4 million kilometers) in diameter.
It is said that the sun has enough nuclear fuel to stay much as it is now for the next 5 billion years. Sun consists of about 91% of hydrogen, 8.9% of helium, and rest heavier elements like nitrogen, carbon, and so on, due to the extreme temperature of the sun these elements stay in the plasma phase (gas-like). Nuclear fusion is the reason behind the immense and continuous emission of energy from the sun. In the core region of the sun, the temperature reaches at least 27 million degrees Fahrenheit (15 million Celsius), along with enormous gravity of sun hydrogen molecules combines to form helium generally known as Nuclear Fusion which releases radiations, heat, lights, etc.
Sun is gigantically big that it can fit all 8 planets almost 600+ times. It is more than 120 piles of earth wide in diameter. Due to its mass and huge size sun’s gravity hold 8 planets, many dwarf planets, almost 170 moons, countless comets, and asteroids so our solar system is possible and intact.
Though it is not possible to notice the magnetic field of the sun from our naked eye there are various dark spots called sunspots that mark their presence.
It is believed that the stock of hydrogen fuel of the sun will end in around 6.5 billion years and the sun will expand to form various small planets and stars called a white dwarf.
